I thought I might try my hand at a full-length novel. Actually, the idea germinated for about a decade, but actual work was spotty. Signing up for The Write Practice helped immensely and I was finally able to finish the book in record time.
The work is alternative history action/adventure set in the present day.
More than 150 years after the American Civil War, the United States and Confederate States of America have finally decided to talk about reunification. Does the mighty British Empire, now a vast multinational federation, object to this? Publicly, no. But there are whiffs of a nefarious scheme. Could the new union move against the empire in North America? Would a unified, powerful and resurgent America risk an immediate confrontation with the world’s hyperpower? Leighton Whittaker, a talented freelance operative from Upper Canada, former imperial secret service agent, and incidentally a fervent supporter of reunification, blunders into a risky mission to find out. Can he use his wits and charm as an undercover imperial analyst in the few chaotic days leading up to the Richmond talks to discover the truth, while keeping one of the Kaiser’s assassins at bay? The peace and security of British North America, indeed the global geopolitical balance of power that has stood for decades, may depend on it. But what does the empire really want?
I am currently polishing version seven of the manuscript, with the help of a developmental editor and some great beta readers.
I’ll update this page as I continue on my journey to publication.
